This definitely has lots of potential. With some serious focus put into the visuals, this wouldn't be too shabby. I imagine an alternate option could be to let the player decide when to 'jump', though that replaces challenge with strategy, and probably not worth it. This could go several ways. Boss fights where the burn is used to both jump and attack. A distance challenge, where you decide when to start, and your character starts running, with random events help/slow you. I dunno. Good job, innovative.
